Yellow alert issued for 10 districts of Haryana

Southwestern winds from Rajasthan continue to affect weather in Haryana; yellow alert issued for 10 districts

The weather in Haryana has remained unsettled for the past three days due to southwesterly winds entering the state from Rajasthan. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms, strong winds and lightning in 10 districts today, including Kaithal, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Panchkula, Mahendragarh, Rewari, Palwal and Nuh. Wind speeds of up to 60 kmph are likely in these areas.

Weather experts have indicated that the onset of the monsoon in Haryana is expected to be delayed this year. Residents may have to wait for more than a month before the monsoon arrives in the state.

On Saturday, rain accompanied by strong winds was reported in Panchkula, Fatehabad, Karnal, Panipat, Hisar, Hansi, Jind, Sonipat, Sirsa and Faridabad. Dust storms were also witnessed in Narnaul and surrounding areas.

According to Dr. Madan Khichar, Head of the Department of Agricultural Meteorology at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, another western disturbance is expected to affect the region around June 4. Its impact may bring light to moderate rainfall across parts of Haryana.

He said the monsoon generally enters Haryana after July 1. This year, due to a likely delay in its progress, it may reach the state about a week later than usual.

Temperatures drop after rainfall

Heavy rainfall on Saturday led to a significant drop in temperatures across Haryana. The state’s average maximum temperature declined by 1.7°C and remained 8.9°C below normal. Ambala recorded a maximum temperature of 30.8°C, while Rohtak recorded 33.5°C. Despite the cooler conditions, Faridabad remained the hottest district in the state with a maximum temperature of 37.8°C.

The combined effect of rainfall and cool winds also reduced nighttime temperatures. The state’s average minimum temperature fell by 1.1°C and remained 2.6°C below normal. Mahendragarh recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the plains at 20.9°C. Sirsa recorded a minimum temperature of 27.0°C, while Ambala registered 26.6°C, providing significant relief from humidity and heat.
