Severe storm damages solar panels, houses and trees in rural Bathinda villages

A severe storm that lashed several rural areas on Friday caused widespread damage to agricultural infrastructure, residential properties and trees in Sitto Gunno, Mehrana and nearby villages, leaving farmers worried about heavy financial losses.

According to local residents, strong winds uprooted numerous trees in fields and along village roads, disrupting traffic and damaging the local green cover. The storm also caused significant damage to solar panels installed for agricultural purposes.

Among those affected was Arvind Kumar, a resident of Mehrana village, whose solar panel system installed at Sitto Gunno suffered extensive damage due to the high intensity winds.

The storm also impacted residential properties in the area. In one incident, a wall of a house collapsed under the force of the strong winds, although no casualties were reported.

Farmers said the storm struck with such intensity that standing infrastructure in several fields was damaged, causing concern among residents already facing agricultural challenges.

The affected farmers have urged the district administration and the Punjab government to immediately send a special team to assess the losses and provide appropriate compensation. They demanded a comprehensive survey of the affected villages to evaluate the damage caused to agricultural assets, solar installations and private property.

Local residents said an official assessment would help determine the extent of the losses and ensure timely relief for those impacted by the storm.
