First time in INDIA, PGI to start Fellowship in Brachytherapy

Yet another feather in their cap, Radiotherapy Department of PGIMER, Chandigarh is going to start prestigious fellowship program in Brachytherapy first time in country.

Talking on this, HOD of Radiotherapy Unit II Professor Rakesh Kapoor said that brachytherapy is specialised field and to enhance its wings we have taken this challenge to start this fellowship program of one year from this very recent session 2019-2020. We are given all permissions after the tireless efforts of five years.

Dr Kapoor explained further that they are permitted to have two seats for this fellowship, for which they already conducted exam and interview. They have been permitted to take One Senior Resident from Outside and one from inside. Since, an Outside candidate have cleared the exam and interview, so he will be joining soon.

What is Brachytherapy

As said before by Dr Kapoor, it is a specialised field in which cancer is treated with an invasive technique and radiation is given at targeted area so that the healthy tissue shall not get affected. Since, PGIMER is already running URO-ONCO CLINIC, IG CANCER CLINIC, LUNG-ONCO CLINIC and many such cancer clinics for the last 20 years, it was need of the hour to start such fellowship program in PGIMER. Dr Kapoor felt elated sharing that PGIMER is first one in country to start this Brachytherapy Fellowship program. After which the maximum Cancer patients would be benefitted.
