4-Year-Old Rescued From Borewell After 9-Hour Operation in Hoshiarpur

A four-year-old boy trapped in a borewell at Chak Samana village on the Hoshiarpur-Dasuya road was rescued safely after a nearly nine-hour-long operation involving the NDRF, SDRF, Punjab Police, district administration and local residents.

The child, Gurkaran Singh, son of labourers Harinder and Asha, slipped into the open borewell near his house around 4 pm Friday. He was brought out at 12:40 am and rushed to hospital for medical examination. Officials said he had been stuck at a depth of nearly 30 feet.

Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain and SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik supervised the rescue, which involved digging a parallel pit and creating a tunnel to reach the borewell shaft. A camera and oxygen pipe were lowered to monitor the boy’s condition during the operation. More than 40 NDRF personnel provided crucial expertise.

Punjab Jails Minister Dr Ravjot Singh and Hoshiarpur MP Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal remained present at the site, commending the relentless efforts of the rescue teams. Both leaders described the mission as highly sensitive and praised the collective spirit that ensured Gurkaran’s safe evacuation.

SSP Malik also lauded the bravery and commitment of all involved, noting that the coordinated response of officials, rescue teams and villagers saved the child’s life.
