Punjab Police Forms Over 1,300 Defence Committees Under Anti-Drug Drive in Ropar Range. Under the ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign in Punjab, the state police have successfully formed 1,228 rural and 162 urban defence committees in the Ropar Range. According to Ropar Range DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar, 435 panchayats and municipal wards have passed resolutions banning the sale of narcotics, which the police consider a “major achievement.”

Speaking to news agency ANI, DIG Bhullar stated, “The Punjab government has launched a war against drugs. Between January 1 and April 3, police formed 1,228 defence committees in villages and 162 in urban areas. We have had success in the Ropar Range. In 435 panchayats and wards, resolutions have been passed to ban the sale of narcotics. This is a big achievement for the police.”

Any Punjab Police officer found involved with drug traffickers or dealers will face criminal charges, imprisonment, and termination of service.

March Against Drugs Flagged Off

Earlier, Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria flagged off a six-day foot march from Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor to Dera Baba Nanak on Thursday. The march will pass through Gurdaspur and Amritsar districts. On Friday, Kataria emphasized that governments cannot fight social evils alone and appealed to citizens to motivate others to quit drugs. “Due to drug addiction, our youth are weakening, families are being destroyed. The government is doing what it can. But we cannot fight any social evil without the people’s cooperation. I urge all of you to encourage those around you to give up drugs,” he said.

Woman Constable Dismissed for Drug Links

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Headquarters Dr. Sukhchain Singh Gill announced that woman constable Amandeep Kaur has been dismissed from service due to her involvement in a drug case. The development came a day after a team led by Sadar Bathinda Police Station SHO Anubhav Jain arrested her. She was found with 17.71 grams of heroin in a black Mahindra Thar she was driving. The vehicle has also been seized. The accused was temporarily posted at the Police Lines in Bathinda.
