Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra added another medal to his illustrious career, clinching silver at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with a throw of 85.83 metres. The former Olympic champion, who hails from Khandra village in Panipat, overcame recent injuries to secure a podium finish, prompting joyous celebrations back home.
His father, Satish Chopra, distributed laddoos after the result, saying, “We are happy with the performance.” The family had hoped Neeraj would cross the 90‑metre mark but expressed pride in his resilience. “Every athlete faces immense pressure at the international level, but Neeraj gave his best,” he added.
Neeraj entered the Games after battling back and arm injuries that sidelined him for much of 2025. His first coach, Jaiveer Chaudhary, stood by him during recovery, noting that strong winds and lingering injury challenges affected his throws. “Despite this, we are overjoyed that our son won the silver medal,” he said.
The achievement sparked celebrations in his native village, where family and locals gathered to honor the champion. His grandfather, Dharam Chopra, called it a proud moment for the family and the nation, while uncle Bhimsen Chopra congratulated him and other medal winners, saying India’s future in javelin remains bright.
Neeraj’s medal adds to his impressive record, which already includes gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and silver at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
