Haryana Police arrested 4,771 accused in 3,915 cases during a 15 day statewide crackdown under Operation Trackdown, conducted from August 1 to 15 ahead of Independence Day.
As many as 865 accused involved in 621 serious crime cases were arrested and sent behind bars. Police action covered cases related to murder, attempt to murder, robbery, dacoity, extortion, snatching, kidnapping, illegal arms and organised crime.
The crackdown also led to the arrest of 271 accused in 251 Arms Act cases, 262 in 155 attempt to murder cases and 99 in 72 murder cases. Police also arrested 70 accused in robbery cases, 57 in snatching cases, 26 in extortion cases, 33 in kidnapping cases and 22 in dacoity cases.
Police recovered 135 country made pistols, 76 pistols, 15 magazines, three revolvers, two guns and 287 cartridges during the operation. Narcotics seized included heroin, charas, smack, cocaine, ganja, opium and poppy related substances.
The police also updated 1,406 history sheets of existing offenders and opened history sheets against 241 new habitual offenders. In addition, 28 wanted and rewarded criminals were arrested, including one carrying a reward of ₹1 lakh.
DGP Ajay Singhal said the operation was aimed not merely at making arrests but at dismantling criminal networks through sustained, technology and intelligence based policing.
