Punjab Police have arrested rape accused Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, who had been evading law enforcement for over six months. He was apprehended by the Patiala police following sustained efforts to trace his whereabouts.
Pathanmajra is the second sitting MLA to be arrested in two days. Earlier, MLA and former transport minister Laljit Bhullar was arrested in an abetment to suicide case.
According to officials, Pathanmajra had been declared a proclaimed offender by a court in connection with serious charges, including rape, cheating and criminal intimidation. An FIR had been registered against him, and he had been absconding since September 2, 2025, in a rape case. A lookout notice had also been issued earlier to track his movements.
Police said that after allegedly committing the offences, the accused went into hiding, prompting the court to declare him a proclaimed offender. With the lookout notice in place, authorities were eventually able to locate and arrest him.
A Punjab government spokesperson said that the accused will be produced before a competent court following his arrest.
