Punjab to Send Third Batch of Teachers to Finland for Training; ₹400 Crore Plan to Upgrade School Labs

The Punjab government is preparing to send the third batch of teachers to Finland for advanced training, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains announced on Saturday. He said the selection process for the teachers will be based strictly on merit.

Alongside the Finland training initiative, the government is also finalising a ₹400 crore plan to upgrade computer laboratories in government schools across the state. As part of the digital transformation of classrooms, interactive panels are being installed to offer students a modern learning experience comparable to that of private schools.

“The aim is to prepare the youth with quality and modern education. We are committed to strengthening the foundations of our education system,” Bains said while addressing a gathering of educators at a “Shikshak Samvad” (Dialogue with Teachers) programme held at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) in Sangrur.

Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh was also present at the event, which served as a platform for collecting direct feedback and suggestions from teachers and school principals. Bains said the government is actively engaging with educators to improve academic quality and school infrastructure.

Taking a dig at previous administrations, Bains said, “Earlier governments ruined the education system by focusing only on transfers and tenders. In contrast, our government has made the welfare of teachers and students, as well as strengthening infrastructure, its top priority.”

He asserted that the active participation of teachers is crucial in the state’s mission to build one of the best school education systems in the country. “We have taken all teacher organisations seriously and treated everyone without bias,” he added.
