Punjab Government Supports Families of Martyrs, Provides Relief and Assistance. As a gesture of solidarity in the truest sense, the Punjab Government has lent unflinching support to the families of soldiers who gave their last breath for the country. The government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has released Rs 1 crore in compensation to the martyr families so that they do not feel isolated during their time of sorrow.
Realizing the grief of these families, the Chief Minister has gone to visit numerous of them himself, providing not only monetary support but also comforting words and assurances. “The death of a soldier is not only an individual tragedy; it is a tragedy for the entire state and the nation. We stand shoulder to shoulder with these courageous families and will continue to support them in all possible ways,” Mann said.
Apart from the financial assistance, the government has raised pensions for war widows from Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,000 a month and raised aid for soldiers who were hit by ‘Operation Blue Star’ from Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 a month. The war veterans’ pension has also been raised to Rs 20,000 annually. In order to strengthen its intentions, the Punjab Government has spent Rs 74 crore on soldiers’ and soldiers’ families’ welfare in this year’s financial year.
The families in mourning have taken comfort in the government assistance. They have shown appreciation for the timely relief, terming it a life-supporting gesture during their lowest moments. “Dying to serve the nation is a heartache that doesn’t heal, but knowing the government cares about us gives one the strength to carry on,” noted a bereaved family member.
This scheme demonstrates the Punjab Government’s great regard for its soldiers’ sacrifices. Through the provision of financial assistance, emotional support, and ongoing welfare initiatives, the government insures that the legacy of Punjab’s war heroes is cherished and their families are not left to suffer in loneliness in their loss.
