The youth once trapped in the cycle of drugs are now emerging as builders of a brighter Punjab. This transformation is the real outcome of the Punjab government’s ambitious campaign ‘Yudh Nashon Virudh’ (War Against Drugs). Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the state has not only tightened its grip on drug networks but also created pathways of dignity and self-employment for recovering youth.
In the past nine months, this campaign has delivered strong results. Since March 1, 2025, Punjab Police has registered 26,256 cases, arrested 38,687 drug smugglers, and seized more than 1,714 kilograms of heroin—a clear reflection of the government’s zero-tolerance commitment. While smugglers face strict action, the government is simultaneously focusing on rehabilitation and livelihood generation to prevent relapse among recovering youth.
As part of this dual approach, the Ludhiana District Administration—supported by the Dairy Development and Health Departments—has launched a 10-day skill training program at the Government Rehabilitation Centre in Jagraon. The aim is to equip de-addiction patients with practical skills that ensure a stable income. Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain termed it a vital step toward holistic rehabilitation, emphasizing that no recovering youth should fall back into addiction due to poverty or unemployment.
On the inaugural day, Surinder Singh, Deputy Director of Dairy Development, provided hands-on training in dairy farming and related vocations. After completing the program, capable participants will receive bank loans and financial assistance to start small dairy units. The initiative is being overseen by Civil Surgeon Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, Lead District Manager Gurdev Singh Kang, and Centre In-charge Dr. Vivek Goyal.
By combining strict enforcement with meaningful rehabilitation, the Mann government is ensuring that recovery becomes a new beginning. This effort is not only transforming individual lives but also helping rebuild a healthier, stronger, and more prosperous Punjab.
