IP-Enabled CCTV Cameras for Transparency in Sub-Registrar Offices in Punjab

IP-Enabled CCTV Cameras for Transparency in Sub-Registrar Offices in Punjab. According to a new directive issued by IAS Anurag Verma, ACS Revenue, all Sub-Registrar and Joint Sub-Registrar offices in the state have been instructed to install IP-enabled CCTV cameras. The decision is taken for greater transparency and to monitor the working of officials, bringing ease to the people during the document registration process.

Under the plan, four CCTV cameras will be installed in each office. Two cameras will be placed inside to oversee the document verification area, while the other two monitor the public waiting area. These IP-based systems will provide live footage access, enabling Deputy Commissioners to remotely verify the presence of officials and monitor public crowd situations.

Recent inspections showed a worrying shortfall, with only three cameras functioning out of 180 installed in various offices. In this regard, all districts have been instructed to ensure that these cameras are fully functional by 31st January 2025.

District officials have been asked to connect the live feeds of these cameras to their computers or mobile phones, which can help in live surveillance and allow surprise checks of office operations. Technical support has also been extended to district officials to ensure easy implementation.

District officials are also directed to randomly monitor live CCTV footage every day, and the head office with senior officials will monitor the system’s functionality and compliance regularly. This is a government aim to use technology to their best for better governance and to provide a transparent and efficient public service environment.
