In a significant move to promote the use of Artificial Intelligence in the education sector, the Haryana School Education Department has made it mandatory for all government school teachers to download and regularly use the AI powered “Guru Mitra App”.
The Directorate of School Education has issued instructions to District Education Officers, District Elementary Education Officers and heads of all government schools to ensure immediate implementation of the directive.
According to an official communication issued by the Directorate, the Guru Mitra App is an AI based academic support platform designed to assist teachers in preparing lesson plans, creating teaching material, conducting assessments, generating educational content and managing classrooms more effectively. The department believes that the initiative will enhance teachers’ productivity and further strengthen digital education in government schools.
The Directorate has clarified that downloading the application alone will not be sufficient. Teachers will be required to use the platform regularly as part of their academic responsibilities. School heads have been tasked with monitoring compliance and ensuring that every teacher in their respective institutions installs and actively uses the app.
The order further directs school authorities to provide teachers with the necessary guidance and technical support to facilitate the smooth adoption of the AI platform.
The move is being seen as another step by the Haryana Education Department towards expanding technology based learning and digital governance in schools. Over the past few years, the department has introduced several digital initiatives, including e learning modules, online assessments and digital content platforms. The integration of an AI based application into teachers’ daily work marks a new phase in these efforts.
Education experts say that if implemented effectively, the app could help improve the quality of lesson planning, reduce the time spent on preparing teaching resources and make student assessments more accurate and efficient. The initiative is also expected to familiarise teachers with emerging AI technologies and encourage their use in classroom teaching.
