Canada offers collaboration with Haryana in energy, mining, education and technology

Canada has proposed wide-ranging cooperation with Haryana in sectors such as energy, mining, education, investment and technological exchange. It has also expressed interest in establishing a university in the state. Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini stressed the need to enhance the participation of the state’s youth in waste-to-energy initiatives, power generation projects and opportunities available in Canada’s mining sector.

Christopher Cooter, Canada’s High Commissioner to India, met the chief minister on Tuesday at his official residence, Sant Kabir Kutir. During the meeting, it was decided that investment procedures between Haryana and Canada would be fast-tracked to make the process more efficient.

Officials said permission protocols would be simplified and coordination among departments strengthened to ensure all essential services are available seamlessly. Impressed by Haryana’s rapid economic growth, strong industrial base and investor-friendly policies, Canada expressed its intention to deepen economic and strategic ties with the state.

The initiative is expected to open new avenues for investment in Haryana, speed up job creation and strengthen global partnerships. The state government aims to position Haryana as north India’s most reliable destination for global investment. Discussions were also held on a detailed roadmap to attract Canadian investors and make bilateral trade relations more result-oriented.

Saini said his government was committed to creating global opportunities for youth and driving the state towards new dimensions of development. He said skill training was being aligned with industry requirements, and efforts were underway to help young people secure overseas employment. Haryana has set a target of becoming a one trillion dollar economy by 2047.

Education, energy and artificial intelligence are expected to play major roles in achieving this goal. The Department of Foreign Cooperation is maintaining regular coordination with ambassadors, investors and other global stakeholders to strengthen mutual engagement. Chief principal secretary Rajesh Khullar, chief secretary Anurag Rastogi, additional principal secretary to the chief minister Dr Saket Kumar and foreign cooperation adviser Pawan Choudhary also offered key suggestions during the meeting.
