Amritsar Rural SSP suspended over lax action against gangs

The Mann government has suspended Amritsar Rural SSP Maninder Singh over allegations of rising crime in the district and weak action against gangsters. The move comes at a time when the area has reported frequent threats and extortion attempts targeting doctors and businessmen. Earlier, gangsters had shot dead doctor Kuldeep Singh, a case that raised serious questions over policing in the region.

In recent weeks, several gangsters were calling traders and doctors to demand money. The latest suspension follows an earlier decision by the Election Commission to remove Tarn Taran SSP Ravjot Kaur during the polls.

There is no official confirmation yet from senior officers about the action against IPS officer Maninder Singh, but posters about his suspension began circulating on social media on Saturday morning. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that any lapse in action against gangsters will not be tolerated.
