President Droupadi Murmu Attends 72nd Annual Convocation at Panjab University. The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, attended the 72nd Annual Convocation of Panjab University in Chandigarh, alongside Punjab and Chandigarh Governor Gulab Chand Kataria. The event was also attended by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who expressed his joy at being part of the ceremony and meeting distinguished personalities from various fields.

“It was a great honor to participate in the 72nd annual convocation of Panjab University, Chandigarh, along with the Hon’ble President of India, Droupadi Murmu, and Punjab & Chandigarh Governor, Gulab Chand Kataria. I truly enjoyed meeting renowned personalities who have made exemplary contributions in various fields,” Bhagwant Mann said.

During her address, President Murmu extended congratulations to all graduating students, gold medalists, and recipients of honorary degrees and special awards. She highlighted the significance of the convocation, emphasizing that this moment not only celebrates academic achievements but also marks the beginning of new journeys. She acknowledged the crucial role of parents and faculty in shaping the students’ success.

Murmu praised the gender balance among students at the university, noting that more than 80% of toppers were female. She commended the university’s efforts in empowering women and underscored the importance of education in fostering development at the family, societal, and national levels.

The President also recognized Panjab University’s legacy of excellence in academics, sports, and research over the past 140 years. She lauded the institution for winning the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy 17 times and acknowledged its contributions to Indian athletics, including medal-winning performances by students at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Murmu highlighted the university’s focus on innovation, research, and global partnerships in alignment with the National Education Policy. She noted its contributions to rural education and praised initiatives like the Population Research Centre and the Centre for Industry-Institute Partnership Programme, which strengthen academia-industry linkages.

Encouraging students to adopt a positive mindset and advanced skill sets, she emphasized the need to embrace emerging technologies to succeed in a competitive world. She urged graduates to contribute meaningfully to the development of marginalized communities, ensuring inclusive and sustainable progress.

Concluding her speech, the President reminded students of the illustrious legacy of Panjab University, which has produced leaders, Nobel laureates, and distinguished personalities. She expressed confidence that the graduates would carry forward this heritage and make a lasting impact on society, urging them to stay connected with their alma mater.

“I wish you all a bright future,” Murmu said, signing off with a patriotic note: “Jai Hind! Jai Bharat!”
