Radical Amritpal Singh Threatens the Life of CM Mann: Punjab Police to HC. The Punjab police have sounded an alarm over a big threat posed to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann by radical Amritpal Singh and his associates. In an affidavit presented before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the police claimed that Amritpal Singh and his followers do not only pose a threat to law and order in the state but are also a direct threat to chief minister Bhagwant Mann’s life.
The affidavit apparently refers to the several video clips that surfaced outside the Ajnala police station where Amritpal Singh, who is Khadoor Sahib MP, is apparently heard making those statements, as if Chief Minister Mann would be meeting the same end as chief minister Beant Singh, who was assassinated in a suicide bombing attack in 1995.
“We told CM Mann not to tread the CM Beant Singh path… CM Mann still continues on that path. Dilawar became a human bomb, and through his detonation, blew up CM Beant Singh…CM Mann ensured several such Dilawars emerged from this crowd.” Amritpal is said to have said this in the video recordings.
The police argue that this may make gullible youths believe the assassination of the democratically elected leader to be a “heroic deed.” They further expressed concern that Amritpal Singh and his associates might commit illegal acts against people opposing their fundamentalist ideology, seriously threatening public order and state security.
Such warnings come as part of the police response to petitions filed by Sarabjeet Singh Kalsi and Gurmeet Singh Gill, associates of Amritpal Singh, challenging the detention orders issued by the Punjab government under the National Security Act (NSA) in March 2024.
