Major political parties in Punjab will stage high-voltage rallies in Baba Bakala on Saturday during the annual Rakhhar Puniya fair, against the backdrop of an ongoing tussle between the state government and farmers over the contentious land pooling policy.
Opposition parties will target the AAP government on the issue, while Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, joined by his cabinet, will lead AAP’s state-level rally to counter criticism and showcase achievements.
Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal is set to address what is being described as one of his largest recent political gatherings, aimed at reviving the party’s support base and uniting it amid religious controversies.
Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla said senior party leaders and workers from Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, and Amritsar will attend as the party seeks to iron out internal rifts ahead of the 2027 polls.Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh’s Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) will also demonstrate its strength, with plans to field a candidate in the upcoming Tarn Taran bypoll.
Analysts see the rallies — just 40 kilometres from Tarn Taran and ahead of the by-election announcement — as a major show of strength by all sides ahead of the next electoral face-off.
