In addition to removing the Vigilance Chief and suspending the Deputy Commissioner of Muktsar Sahib, the government now requested resignations of 232 legal officers posted to advocate on behalf of the state in the High Court, Supreme Court, and tribunals.
Advocate General Gurinder Singh said that this is a normal process, as these officers are appointed for one year, and their term expires in February. The decision is to streamline legal functions and maintain continuity in legal representation.
Five Major Decisions Taken by the Punjab Government Post Delhi Elections
- February 14 – Directives against corruption were ordered by the government, which ordered Deputy Commissioners (DCs), Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), and Station House Officers (SHOs) to stop corruption or else face action.
- February 17 – Punjab Vigilance Chief, Special DGP Varinder Kumar, was relieved and replaced by ADGP G. Nageshwari. The Muktsar Sahib DC was suspended on the same day on corruption charges, and a vigilance inquiry was initiated against him.
- February 19 – The Punjab government terminated 52 police officers found to be involved in corruption.
- 21 Feb – 21 IPS officers, including SSPs in nine districts, were transferred by the government.
