Haryana Becomes First State to Offer 20% Police Job Quota to Agniveers, Launches New Welfare Measures

Haryana Becomes First State to Offer 20% Police Job Quota to Agniveers, Launches New Welfare Measures. In a landmark move, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has announced a series of welfare initiatives aimed at securing the future of Agniveers, the youth recruited under the Centre’s Agnipath military recruitment scheme. Most notably, the state government has increased the reservation for Agniveers in police jobs from 10% to 20%, making Haryana the first state in the country to provide such a significant post-service employment guarantee.

The announcement is part of a broader policy framework to support Agniveers once they complete their four-year service. Saini emphasized that these measures reflect the state’s commitment to integrating disciplined and skilled youth into civil society roles and ensuring a stable future for them.

Key Highlights of the Government’s Announcement:

  • 20% Reservation in Haryana Police: The reservation for Agniveers in police recruitment has been enhanced from the earlier 10% to a total of 20%. This horizontal reservation applies across various categories and will ensure job security for those completing their service.
  • Dedicated Agniveer Portal: A separate online portal will be launched to streamline the registration process for Agniveers seeking state government benefits, job opportunities, and support schemes.
  • Support for Self-Employment: For Agniveers interested in entrepreneurship, the government will provide loans at affordable rates to help them start businesses and achieve financial independence.
  • Priority in Gun Licenses: Agniveers wishing to enter the private security sector will receive preference in obtaining firearm licenses, facilitating their entry into security-related professions.
  • Existing 10% Quota in Constables and Forest Guards: The government had previously declared a 10% reservation for Agniveers in constable and forest guard posts, a policy that remains in effect alongside the new initiatives.
  • Rising Agniveer Recruitment Figures: The number of Agniveers recruited from Haryana has seen a steady increase—from 2,227 in 2022–23 to 2,893 in 2023–24—indicating a growing participation of youth from the state in the Agnipath scheme.

The initiatives, seen as a pioneering effort to bridge military service and civilian employment, have drawn attention nationwide. With these steps, Haryana is positioning itself as a model for states looking to support the transition of Agniveers into productive civilian roles.
