Bid to Vandalise Ambedkar Statue in Amritsar Sparks Outrage; CM Bhagwant Mann Promises Strict Action Amritsar: A man from Moga district was arrested on Sunday for allegedly attempting to vandalize a statue of Dr. B R Ambedkar at Town Hall on Heritage Street, near the Golden Temple.

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from political leaders and the public. The Amritsar Police Commissionerate registered an FIR and arrested the accused after a video of the incident surfaced on social media. In the video, the man is seen using a long steel ladder to climb the statue while carrying a hammer.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann termed it “highly condemnable” and said, “Whoever is responsible for the incident will be severely punished. No one will be allowed to break the brotherhood and unity of Punjab,” he said, adding that strict action would be taken. He further instructed the administration to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure justice.

The incident has drawn a sharp reaction from opposition leaders. Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring called it a “deep-rooted conspiracy” and demanded a high-level probe. BJP leader Tarun Chugh also echoed the need for strict punishment and a deeper investigation into the conspiracy.

Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal also condemned the act saying that it was a “heinous attempt to hurt the sentiments of millions.” He demanded a thorough inquiry into the conspiracy behind the incident and said, “Let us stand united against such divisive attempts.”

The vandalism attempt has raised concerns about communal harmony, with calls for stringent measures to prevent such acts and maintain peace in the region. AAP Punjab Chief Aman Arora and Finance Minister Harpal Cheema also would pay respects at the statue where an attempt was made to vandalize the statue of Baba Saheb.
