Sukhraj Singh, a Sikh leader who recently announced his candidature for the Gidderbaha Assembly bypoll, today confirmed that he had been summoned by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and that he was not sure what the summons was about. Singh’s father was killed in 2015 police firing at Behbal Kalan village in Punjab. NIA Summons Sikh leader Sukhraj Singh ahead of Gidderbaha Bypoll.

The notice reads: “Whereas it appears that you are acquainted with the circumstances of the case noted below, which is now under investigation. you are hereby required to attend before the undersigned at National Investigation Agency, Hqrs Opposite CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi, on 19.09.2024 at 1100 hrs for the purpose of answering certain questions relating to a case.”

Sukhraj Singh sat in protest for 737 days, starting from December 2021 till December 2023, seeking justice for his father Kishan Bhaghwan Singh and Gurjit Singh, who were killed in police firing at Behbal Kalan on 14th October 2015, while trying to protest after the sacrilege of the Guru Granth Sahib. It was said that Sukhraj Singh played a pretty big role in the 2022 assembly elections.

The case stands No-RC-05/2023/NIA/DLI now in Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita with sections of rioting, unlawful assembly, criminal conspiracy, and assault. In the sections, the NIA has also invoked Unlawful Activities Act, the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act and the Prevention of Insults to National Honours Act as well.

On their official website, the NIA has not confirmed any information on the specifics of the case.
